IAR State Testing

In April our 3rd-5th graders will begin taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) assessment.  Students will take assessments in the areas of language arts and mathematics.

The results of these assessments help us to develop our School Improvement Plan. In addition, individual student scores will be sent home when the results have been returned to the district.

You can help your child do their best on the test by:

  • Making sure your child attends school on the days of testing.
  • Making sure your child gets a good night's sleep.
  • Providing breakfast on the mornings of the tests.
  • Letting your child know that you have confidence in his/her ability to do his/her best.
  • Advising your child not to worry about the test – just to put forth their best effort.

Please see our testing schedule below. If you are a remote family, please note that we will be setting up our computer lab for all remote learners with six feet of social distancing. You are not allowed to take the state assessment remotely. We will not be teaching live during our testing sessions.

Classroom Requests for 2021-2022

The preparation for the 2021-2022 school year has begun.  Every student at North Grove is individually placed by our team of staff.  We understand that parents often have input that can assist the team when placing students. If you have a learning style recommendation that you want the team to consider, please e-mail this information to Mr. Janisch by Friday, May 7.

EarlyAct Activities for April

We are focused on the core value of Responsibility for April. EarlyAct has planned two fun activities.

  • Community Service Project- The EarlyAct Club is collecting activity supplies for Seniors in our community! We are collecting these items to pair with our Pen Pal letters for Seniors who are living at Oak Crest and The Grand Victorian. We hope to lift their spirits during this challenging time of COVID-19 and we need your help! If you would like to donate, we are looking for the following *new* items:
  • Puzzles
  • Coloring books
  • Card Games
  • Matching games
  • Brain teasers
  • Deck of cards
  • Crossword puzzles
  • Sudoku puzzles
  • Word searches
  • Knitting, latch hook, other string crafts
  • Coloring supplies

Please drop your donations off in the office by Friday, May 7. Thank you for your help with our community service project!

PTO Update- Elections and The North Grove Groove 5K Run

PTO elections are just around the corner. We need parents who would be willing to run for an executive officer position for the 21-22 school year. We will have multiple vacancies to fill during our May meeting, which is our election meeting.  If you would be interested in supporting North Grove as an executive board position, please let me know by Wednesday, May 5.

The North Grove Groove 5K Run will be a remote run once again this year. In our efforts to promote social distancing while offering a fun experience for families we are offering our run remotely. Between the dates of Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 9 we are encouraging our North Grove families to complete a 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk. Families will complete the 5K on their own in their own neighborhoods. Just use an app on your phone or even your car to measure out the 3.1 miles. Our PTO will have a Google Form for you to complete at the end of your run and every student who finishes the 5K will receive a certificate and a runners medallion. More details to come, but start training Hawks!

4th Grade Girls Night Out

Mark your calendars and save the date!  Virtual Girls Night out hosted by your district nurses in partnership with Northwestern Medicine. Monday Night April 26th.  Watch for more details in upcoming emails.

International Travel

The district is following CDC/IDPH/DCHD recommendations for international travel.

Visit the CDC's website for testing and quarantine after traveling. On this site you are able to type your destination country in the search bar or click on the country on the world map you will see country specific guidance based on travel risk.

Information we will need prior to your child(ren) returns to in person learning includes:

  1. What country you traveled to
  2. What date you return to the US
  3. Completion of CDC requirements post travel

Travel to most destinations will have similar requirements including varying lengths of quarantine and testing options. Until requirements have been met, and your student has been cleared by the school nurse, your children should quarantine at home and participate in remote learning. Please feel free to reach out to your school nurse if you have any questions.

Daily Self Certification

Please call the school office if your student is feeling ill, and be prepared to answer a few questions that will help us quickly and efficiently evaluate your child so that we can provide you information based on the latest recommended guidelines. It is imperative that if your student is experiencing ANY of the following symptoms, they remain home from school and any extracurricular activities outside the home.

  • Fever or chills
  • Moderate to Severe Headache
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Congestion/runny nose
  • Loss of sense of taste or smell
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches

We know that things may look a little different this year and we are committed to keeping you informed on the changes that are taking place. Here is an overview of what your student can expect if they come to the Health Office with any of the symptoms listed above:

  • The student will be brought to the health office where the nurse or their designee will quickly evaluate the student’s condition.
  • If it is determined that they are experiencing any COVID like symptoms the student will be escorted to a designated and supervised isolation area.
  • The school Nurse will notify the parent/guardian and walk them through the process of what is required for the student to return to school.
  • Sick students should be safely transported home by parent or guardian as soon as possible.
  • Other household members of the student will be sent home as well.
  • Students will be expected to remain home from school and any extracurricular activities until cleared to return by the school nurse.
