Announcements

Asynchronous School Days

Our district has been fortunate enough to receive several opportunities for the COVID-19 vaccine over the past month. This week several of our staff members will have the opportunity to receive their second vaccine dose. To ensure that our staff has the ability to attend the clinic sessions, and to give them time to recover from any side effects we will have two days of fully asynchronous work this week.

  • These days will be fully asynchronous
  • No students will attend school on Thursday or Friday
  • We will still have our supply pickup on Friday

Black History Month

Black History Month has started and it gives our schools the opportunity to celebrate the contributions of Black Americans to our nation’s past, present, and future. During the month of February, we will be focusing on celebrating Black History month. Each Monday we will have a fact for the week during announcements. Then each classroom will have instruction specific to Black History Month. We know this will be a meaningful month for all of our students.

Chromebook Update

We are excited to share that the district Chromebooks for grades 4 and 5 were handed out last week. This week all students in 3rd grade will receive their Chromebooks. On the day that they attend in person learning we will give them a Chromebook, charging cord, and carrying case. Remote students will pick up their device during supply pickup (Please stop in the office to receive your Chromebook). Please make sure that your student charges their device each night. They should start transporting their Chromebook to school and home each day. This will allow us to connect the current resources that we are using and it will allow us to connect the student at home to our students in the room. Please read the important reminders below and let me know if you have any questions.

  • Please charge your device nightly
  • Use the district provided carrying case
  • Students should bring their device and charging cord daily
  • Students who currently have a district device will receive a carrying case (Hybrid Only)

5 Essentials Survey

Districts throughout Illinois are asked to participate in the 5Essential survey to gather information from our faculty, students and parents to gain insight into the key components of all successful schools. These areas include effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction. The results of the survey responses are reported back to the schools for their review and planning for future school improvement focus items within the five areas.

We need your assistance and your feedback. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and can be completed on your smart device. Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions here at the school and guide improvement. Your identity and individual survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, please visit https://illinois.5-essentials.org.

Erin’s Law Presentations (Sexual Assault / Sexual Abuse)

Your child’s classroom will be receiving the Erin’s Law presentations during the week of February 22. Information about the presentations is available on our district website. If you have questions please contact me at (RJanisch@syc427.org).

Daily Self Certification

Please call the school office if your student is feeling ill, and be prepared to answer a few questions that will help us quickly and efficiently evaluate your child so that we can provide you information based on the latest recommended guidelines. It is imperative that if your student is experiencing ANY of the following symptoms, they remain home from school and any extracurricular activities outside the home.

  • Fever or chills
  • Moderate to Severe Headache
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Congestion/runny nose
  • Loss of sense of taste or smell
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches

We know that things may look a little different this year and we are committed to keeping you informed on the changes that are taking place. Here is an overview of what your student can expect if they come to the Health Office with any of the symptoms listed above:

  • The student will be brought to the health office where the nurse or their designee will quickly evaluate the student’s condition.
  • If it is determined that they are experiencing any COVID like symptoms the student will be escorted to a designated and supervised isolation area.
  • The school Nurse will notify the parent/guardian and walk them through the process of what is required for the student to return to school.
  • Sick students should be safely transported home by parent or guardian as soon as possible.
  • Other household members of the student will be sent home as well.
  • Students will be expected to remain home from school and any extracurricular activities until cleared to return by the school nurse.

EarlyAct

In the month of February we celebrate the trait of honesty. Honest people are true and sincere. To celebrate honesty wear pink on Tuesday, February 23. For our activity this month students will get to play two facts and a fiction with their class. Each student will write two facts about themselves and one thing that is fiction. The class will then decide which thing was fiction.

Thanks! EarlyAct Students
