This week we officially begin our WIN (What I Need) Time in the district at all of our elementary schools. This is a customized learning time for all students in our buildings in the areas of math and reading. During this time we will focus our instruction on the essential standards that each student needs. Your child may be going with a different teacher during this time which includes our reading specialists, a math specialist, or a different grade level teacher. Last week during our data days we used our data to create our first groups based on the skills they need support/extension with. We used several data points to help us make these first groups. Now each week during our Thursday late starts our staff will be looking at formative data to make adjustments to the groups and essential standards of focus. This has been a multi-year project for the district, and to see it come to fruition is so exciting!
Running with the Hawks (RWTH)
In September we kick off our building fundraiser called “Running with the Hawks”. This fitness based activity is our only fundraiser of the year and we would greatly appreciate your support. More information was sent home on Friday, September 3. The students will be put on teams during their PE class and then they will collect pledges from friends and family. The teams will then compete in a timed relay race on Thursday, October 7. We hope to see many of our North Grove families at this fun event. A schedule of run times will be sent out soon. The funds collected from this event go directly to our PTO and they help support our school activities and teacher requests. Online donations can be made via the District's WebStore.

School Year Calendar
Elementary Choir Sign-ups
We are pleased to announce the sign-ups for the 4th and 5th grade elementary choir. This is a chance for your child to be coached on having a solid singing foundation and to sing some very fun choral music. Each elementary school will have their own in person choir that meets once a week before school.
The North Grove Choir will rehearse Tuesday mornings from 7:45- 8:30 AM. If you have a child that is in 5th grade walk to learn they can leave choir early for you to drive them to the middle school for class that day. The first day of choir will be October 5th for North Grove.
We have two scheduled concerts this year, December 16 at 7:00 PM and May 2 (time TBD) You can also pencil in a trip to a sing-in-the-stands event for the Chicago Wolves on March 13th. We will announce other singing opportunities that may arise during the year.
We will be asking the choir members to wear our choir shirt to each concert. The choir T- shirt will feature the new Sycamore choir logo and will be between $10.25- $8.25 depending on quantities ordered. If you do not wish to order a shirt please provide a plain black T-shirt for the concerts. We will send an email about paying for the T-shirts after choir has begun with the exact price.
Important PTO Event Dates
Please consider becoming active on our North Grove PTO this year. Attached you will find a list of important dates for our PTO events. Please take a moment to enter these dates into your calendars.
Additionally, please join us for our first PTO meeting of the year which is Monday, September 13 at 8:00 PM. We will meet in the cafeteria at North Grove and all are welcome!
Please call the school office if your student is feeling ill, and be prepared to answer a few questions that will help us quickly and efficiently evaluate your child so that we can provide you information based on the latest recommended guidelines. It is imperative that if your student is experiencing ANY of the following symptoms, your student should stay home from school and any extracurricular activities outside the home.
- Temperature of 100.4 (or greater) degrees fahrenheit/38 degrees
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing;
- Muscle and body aches;
- Moderate to severe headache;
- Sore throat;
- New loss of taste or smell;
- Diarrhea; or
- Any other COVID-19 symptoms identified by the CDC or IDPH.
We know that things may look a little different this year and we are committed to keeping you informed on the changes that are taking place. Here is an overview of what your student can expect if they come to the Health Office with any of the symptoms listed above:
- The student will be brought to the health office where the nurse or their designee will quickly evaluate the student’s condition.
- If it is determined that they are experiencing any COVID like symptoms the student will be escorted to a designated and supervised isolation area.
- The school Nurse will notify the parent/guardian and walk them through the process of what is required for the student to return to school.
- Sick students should be safely transported home by parent or guardian as soon as possible.
- Siblings/household members of the symptomatic student may also be sent home.
- Students will be expected to remain home from school and any extracurricular activities until cleared to return by the school nurse.
Good news! No more clipping Box Tops to participate in the Box Top Program. All you need to do is download the all new Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, and then scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit the earnings to North Grove online. Twice a year, North Grove’s PTO will receive a check and use that money to help our school.
We will have a North Grove Spirit Day on Friday, September 17. Students will be encouraged to wear North Grove gear or North Grove school colors on this day. If you want to purchase some North Grove spirit wear please check out our new online shop. Please use the link below to check out all of our new products. Delivery usually takes about a week.

In 4th grade, learning to play the recorder has been an integral part of the elementary music curriculum. We have always requested that students have a recorder for use at their home so they can do their homework while the students used a school recorder during music class. This year out of an abundance of caution, all students will need to bring their recorder to and from music class. If your family owns a recorder that is not being used by a 5th grade child it is completely fine to use that. They can be washed in hot soapy water and air dried. If they are Yamaha recorders, previously purchased through the school district, they are washed through the dishwasher.
If you are in need of a recorder, they are available for purchase through the school district for $5 through the online store. All students who have purchased a recorder through the WebStore will receive them from their music teacher on the first day they begin recorder. We are hoping to begin recorder mid to late September and will send home the exact dates as we get closer. Thank you if you have already purchased your recorder through the web store!
We will be playing recorder again this year during the 5th grade music special. All 5th grade students will need to bring their home recorder to class beginning the week of October 4th. We will begin with a review of recorder basics and then each child will be working on recorder music at their individual level and will each be setting goals for their progress. If you purchased a recorder last year, that recorder will still work for this year's music class.
If you did not participate in music last year, you may use an older sibling’s recorder (they can be washed in hot soapy water and air dried. If they are Yamaha recorders, previously purchased through the school district, they are washed through the dishwasher.)
If you are still in need of a recorder, they are available for purchase through the WebStore for $5 through the online store. All students will need a recorder for their class starting October 4th.
It's that time of the year! The Sycamore Fifth Grade Band Sign-up will be held at North Grove Elementary School on Wednesday, September 8 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) and Thursday, September 9 (6:30-7:30 p.m.). Parents of fifth graders can come either one of those nights at any point to register their child, purchase lesson books and other accessories, and rent/buy an instrument as needed. Representatives from Ellman's Music in Naperville will be on hand, and teachers will be on hand to help answer questions. If you have any questions, please e-mail either Ken Goodman , Scott Mertens, or Bella Crawl.
Spartan Food Pantry Open Wednesday!
