Spartans Read Together

We hope everyone is enjoying the Summer According to Humphrey! Every elementary age student in the district is currently reading the same book as a community wide reading program. Please continue to read the assigned reading each night as a family. We will have daily trivia questions along with a fun community activity. We are excited to share this great activity with your entire family! If you want to watch a district administrator read the assigned chapters each week you can use the link.

EarlyAct April Activities

EarlyAct has been busy planning our activities for April. On Friday, April 22 we will be cleaning up the grounds around North Grove and our older students will help clean up the neighborhood around North Grove.

During the week of May 25-May 29 we will be enjoying the Eggs of Responsibility at North Grove. During this week each classroom will have to care for a giant plastic egg for a week. Below is the list of activities that they will complete during the week.

  • Monday: Name and decorate your egg!
  • Tuesday: Take your egg to special!
  • Wednesday: Read to your egg!
  • Thursday: Give your egg a job and draw it!
  • Friday: Bring your egg to lunch and recess!

Classroom Requests for 2022-2023

The preparation for the 2022-2023 school year will begin shortly. Every student at North Grove is individually placed by our team of staff. We understand that parents often have input that can assist the team when placing students. If you have a learning style recommendation that you want the team to consider, please e-mail this information to me at RJanisch@syc427.org by Friday, April 29.

Visitor and Volunteer Update

With the recent changes to guidance and the easing of mitigation measures in the district we are now able to adjust our visitor/volunteer procedures. At this time all elementary schools are able to resume our normal volunteer procedures. This means that all parents regardless of vaccination status can volunteer within the school. We will continue to limit the number of volunteers that we have for classroom parties and we will continue to keep lunch closed to outside visitors. We look forward to seeing more parents in the building for our volunteer opportunities!

Motorized Vehicles and The Townhomes of Heron Creek

It has been brought to our attention that North Grove students are utilizing motorized vehicles to drive to school district property after school hours. In an effort to ensure that we are being good neighbors to the surrounding communities of North Grove, I will ask that you do not utilize any motorized vehicles through the Townhomes of Heron Creek. That is privately owned property and they have been gracious enough to allow families to walk through to access the school. We do not want to have any disruption to this positive relationship we have had over the past 13 years. Please ensure that no students are utilizing any type of motorized device on  he Townhomes of Heron Creek property. If you have any additional questions about this please contact me at the school.

Reading Logs

North Grove completed a research review as a staff a few years ago. During that time we determined that moving forward we would limit the amount of homework given to students and we would focus on the completion of nightly reading. This independent reading is an essential part of our educational process. We don’t utilize any consequences for students who don’t complete this weekly, however we do use incentives to encourage student participation. Please think about your family participation process in this weekly reading.

  • Is your child(ren) reading daily after school?
  • Do you complete the reading log?
  • Do you discuss the process of practice and how it helps you improve a skill?

Attached is a weekly reading log for your review. You should be receiving these weekly from your classroom teacher.

K-1 Reading Log

2-3 Reading Log

4-5 Reading Log

Thank you for your support!

  • Late start on every Thursday
    • Start Time: 9:30 AM
    • Students can be dropped off starting at 9:15 AM
  • Dismissal: 3:30 PM
  • Birthday Treats
    • Birthdays are sweet, but we are asking that parents not send in birthday treats for the class at this time.

Box Tops Update

Good news! No more clipping Box Tops to participate in the Box Top Program. All you need to do is download the all new Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, and then scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit the earnings to North Grove online. Twice a year, North Grove’s PTO will receive a check and use that money to help our school.
